I'm bored with being God

I had to do some research for tonight's post.

A little background reading.

Because the only thing I knew about this track is that it's absolutely awesome. Seriously. It's leapfrogged it's way into my top 10 favourite tracks this year. Other than that, I knew nothing about Teddybears. Whereas now, I know that they're from Sweden and that their debut album covers everything from garage punk to electro, dancehall to krautrock. Apparently. Ok so granted, my research wasn't deep. You may even go so far as to call it shallow. I certainly couldn't write a dissertation on the band. Not without a certain amount of waffling and filler anyway.

Despite the title and guest vocals by Iggy Pop, this track isn't the rip snorting, bondage dressing, flem spitting punk track you might imagine. Instead it comes on more like a new wave classic with post punk leanings and wouldn't sound out of place soundtracking Molly Ringwald in a John Hughes film. And if the thought of Molly Ringwald isn't enough to get you listening, bear in mind it's got iggy Pop on it giving the kind of half disinterested, half crooning and utterly mesmerising vocal that he excels at. This is like the slightly more fun cousin to the dark and murderously scary song he did with Death In Vegas. Leads me to thinking that Iggy Pop has just the best taste when it comes to choosing artists to back him and songs to lend his considerable talent.

You can hear more two tracks from the Teddybears over at their MySpace page. While they're not really in the same league as this track, they're still worth a moment of your time.

Teddybears featuring Iggy Pop - punkrocker from 'Soft Machine'

Death In Vegas featuring Iggy Pop - aisha from 'The Contino Sessions'
