Everywhere people stare

This last weekend was spent reminiscing.

And it's amazing the power music has in reliving past times.

My university housemate came to visit and we chewed the fat over numerous subjects. Did we remember doing this? Who was the guy who did that? What ever happened to so and so? And it wasn't long before we got onto our two favourite topics. Music and film. Recommendations flew back and forth. There were critiques. Dismissals. Not to mention some disbelief at a few guilty pleasures that have crept in over the years. But as well as new songs and films, we also harked back to the music that soundtracked our uni days. And none were more important than Oasis.

They were one of the bands that linked us. United us. A band who, at the time, were at the peak of their powers. It was before the release of the bloated yet still entertaining 'Be Here Now'. For us they could do no wrong. We knew lyrics off by heart. Compared favourite b-sides and scoured record fairs for bootlegs and live sets. Which is where tonight's song comes in. To be honest, I'd forgotten all about it and it's taken me a few days searching through boxes and old cds to find it. But found it I have and it's as good as I remember. Talk about transporting me back 10 years. Noel's weary voice fits the tone of the song perfectly. It has the feel of those early b-sides. Perfectly produced and not too heavy or stocky. As Oasis themselves once asked, where did it all go wrong?

Saw Oasis at the Hollywood Bowl last year; they were brilliant.
