Are we done with the others?

Marble Sounds are the latest band to land in my inbox and get me really excited.

They make a gloriously melancholic indie sound.

One where boys spend too much time in their bedrooms moping about. Not that I find them depressing. Far from it. Infact, there’s something almost celebrational in the slow paced, introspection of the four songs on their current EP. The songs seem drenched in pathos. A feeling only magnified by the sweet, broken accent of the vocals.

Musically they remind me of The Notwist but without the electronica. Something which allows the songs to have a dash more warmth than that band. More humanity. The odd thing is, despite the lack of electronics, beeps and squelches, I'm also tempted to mention a passing resemblance to The Postal Service. Not that they sound alike. It’s more in the feeling that both bands evoke in me. I can't really describe it more than that. It's a feeling of nostalgic regret. A rose tinted but resigned view of the inevitable let down. And of the redeeming nature of hope.

Marble Sounds hail from Belgium and are the brainchild and talent of Pieter Van Diesel, one half of another band I featured sometime last year, Plastic Operator. You can find out more about them here and buy the EP 'A Painting Or A Spill', here.

Marble Sounds - something that we'd never do
