I might be wrong, so feel free to correct me if I am.
But to my reckoning, this is the first time Nick Cave has ever been remixed.
Which I guess should be seen as some kind of occasion. Shouldn't it? I don't know. I guess in this era of remakes, repackaging, reworks and rerecords, the remix has become just another marketing tool to lengthen the lifespan of a record when no more original material is available. And yes, this is the case here. Or is that me being too cynical? Either way, to coincide with summer appearances at festivals, Grinderman have released these three remixes of 'No Pussy Blues'. Not that I'm grumbling about it. In an unusual, and in my opinion positive move, the record company have chosen to give them away free with no plans to make them commercially available. Which makes my heart and soul smile a little. It's good to see a record company rewarding fans with a show of generosity for our loyalty, rather than making us fork out for a cynically released extended version of the album.
The three remixes landed in my inbox last night and because it's Saturday and I'm feeling especially lazy, I thought they'd more more than make do for today's post. So here they are. They all pretty much dismantle the original track, stripping away most of the dirty base blues and replacing them with various pounding beats and squinky electronic noises. Who'd ever have thought Nick Cave and his cohorts would one day be transformed into club legends. Whether you like them or not will depend on how you feel about ho precious you are about the original tracks, how you feel about remixes and your view on dance music. For my money the epic 7 minute Midfield General remix in all it's grinding electro big beat majesty is the pick of the bunch.
Grinderman - no pussy blues (Midfield General remix) original version available on 'Grinderman'
Grinderman - no pussy blues (Freeland dub) original version available on 'Grinderman'
Grinderman - no pussy blues (G.e.R.M. remix) original version available on 'Grinderman'

oh and i'm not worthy
as one of my good mates would say.....well, fuck my old boots.
Good on the record company (and Nick) as you say. But I bet there's a few diehards upset atb this progresion.
Personally, I think its great stuff and am just annoyed that Grinderman are only doing the late festivals and not any proper tours. Still, the Bad Seeds tickets for November will suffice for now.
