Well that was a dramatic pause.
Thanks for all the comments of encouragement on the last post.
While I wasn’t fishing for them, it’s still kind of you to leave them. I think the way forward is to tread a tad more carefully around what I’m posting. I may steer clear of anything released by panic stricken major labels. Or I may not. Who knows. And in case you’re wondering, the reason for the silence over the last few days was not because I was quivering in a bunker, an outlaw from the posse of Web Sheriffs tracking me, Rather it’s because my Nan died at the weekend. So I’ve not really been in the mood to write anything. In truth, I’m still not. So I’ve not got any real insights into what I’m posting today. Just thought you might like to hear them is all.
And if you’ve never been lucky enough to catch Broken Social Scene or one of their BSS Presents shows, this should give you a pretty damn good idea of how good they sound live. Managing to be both loose and tight at one and the same time. No matter how intense or loud the music becomes, they can’t help but appear laid back and relaxed. It all seems so effortless. You can hear it in the way 'Churches Under Stairs' builds from bassline up. Each player gradually joining the groove, adding their own part and swelling the sound. And no matter, what they're tackling lyrically, there's always an underlying sense of celebrational, communal spirit that really comes to the fore when they perform live.
