By the rivers of my memory

I used to use Sunday as a day to post covers.

And ever since the release of last year's 'Accelerate', I've found myself listening to a hell of a lot of R.E.M.

In fact, on LastFM they rank as my most listened to artist of the last 12 months. So I thought today I'd combine those two things into one quick and easy post. So here are R.E.M. doing a cover. An acoustic take on a track originally by Glen Campbell. Not that I can compare the two versions because my knowledge of Glen Campbell borders on non-existent. Up until this point, I think 'Rhinestone Cowboy' would have been the one and only song of his I could actually name. Now I'm up to two. And I'm guessing his version has a country tinge to it as this one version does. It's a gentle traveling song. Wistful, yearning and nostalgic. The simplicity of the guitar and organ that back Michael Stipe's soft vocal adding to the evocative nature of the song. A lovely song for what, looking out my window, appears to be turning into a lovely Sunday.

R.E.M. - gentle on my mind (Glen Campbell cover live acoustic session version)

It's originally by John Hartford, who could do no wrong.
