Circling like a buzzard

I’m bracing myself.

And battening down the hatches.

Because the last time I wrote about The Mountain Goats, I got a barrage of abuse from a self appointed ‘Goatee’ who took offence at my review of ‘Heretic Pride’ after I dared to criticse it. I guess it’s good for bands to have such passionate fans. Even if they are a tad blinkered. And ever so slightly psychotic. There was a moment where I felt I should look into the option of entering some kind of witness protection programme. Hopefully we won’t have a repeat of that this time. I can’t see why we would as I’ve only got positive things to say. Not that I was particularly vitriolic in my opinion last time. I merely said something about it sounding like previous Mountain Goats albums, only not as good.

This particular session however features the title track from the 2006’s ‘Get Lonely’ and the b-side to their first single on 4AD, ‘Design Your Own Container Gardens’. Both are gently picked, softly sung ruminations on the past. Of missing people and memories of places you’ve been before. Attempting to erase and relive them. Knowing that either is futile and neither is worthwhile.
